Air quality improves in Southwestern Ohio forecast

The Southwestern Ohio Air Pollution Control division expects better air as new air moves in. Readings above 200 occurred for only three hours yesterday, down from seven hours on Tuesday, with Hook Field monitoring station recording 112 this morning and rain expected to clear this afternoon.

A government funded survey of 34 000 17 year olds and 4 200 adults 26 to 35 found males outperformed females in many math tasks related to buying and financing. The study cites higher correct answers by males on unit price and per ounce calculations and notes many cannot balance a checkbook or judge the best food buy. Splashdown at 5 18 Apollo returns home from space

The Apollo 9 crew led by Thomas Stafford Vance Brand and Donald Slayton splash down at 5 18 p m in the Pacific aboard the USS New Orleans completing a nine day mission. They are the last Americans to fly until the Space Shuttle era. Soviet cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Valeri Kubasov also returned safely.
