Rockefeller Budget Seeks 2.92 Billion In New York State
Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller filed a 2.92 billion dollar spending plan with the legislature, up 131 million from the current year, relying on a proposed federal tax cut to avoid state tax increases. Education leads with a 117 million rise to 1.3 billion, plus 19 million for welfare, 13 million for state employee pay and 11 million for fringe benefits. The plan projects a 7 percent economy expansion and calls for gap-bridging measures if the tax cut is delayed, while reserves would remain untouched under a pay-as-you-go posture.
