Pollution fighter admits stealing slag in protest

Robert Manrique, 60, is charged with larceny for taking about six cents worth of slag from Edward C. Levy Slag Stone Co. He says the theft was to expose pollution from the plant and its dust blowing into his Detroit neighborhood. A Wayne County air agency suit required 21 pollution controls including sprinklers.

Answers on new draft on Saigon peace talks

In Saigon President Thieu discussed the revised peace draft with aides then hosted Gen. Haig and Ambassador Bunker at the Presidential Palace. Haig met Thieu for hours, with signals that a cease fire may come. Nixon's envoy may confer with Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos leaders. Boy Drowns After Ice Breaks on Cincinnati Golf Course

David Thornhill a 10 year old boy from Cincinnati drowned Tuesday after falling through thin ice on a pond at the Cincinnati Country Club golf course. Six youths were on the ice when it gave way and a fellow golfer Steve Halpin 21 tried to rescue him but could not due to the extreme cold. Other golfers pulled Halpin out with a water hose.

B52s Hit New Targets Across South Vietnam

U S warplanes pounded North Vietnamese positions in South Vietnam with heavy strikes the heaviest in over a month as bombing continued in Laos and Cambodia. B52s conducted about 90 missions dropping up to 2700 tons aimed at disrupting a North Vietnamese buildup near key infiltration corridors.
