Ortman-Stewart Bus Franchise Renewal Keeps Fare Unchanged

The City Commission renewed Ortman-Stewart Bus Company's franchise for 1948 with no increase in single fares. The only raise approved was tickets books, to 16 tickets for $1 from 20 for $1, citing higher labor and equipment costs. The meeting included discussions on Middletown Service garbage collection, water department charges, and firing of prisoners feeding fees, with several officials and lawyers present. The board also noted a Christmas tree disposal question and praised Police Chief Hugh A. King for 30 years of service including a two-way radio upgrade and leadership of a 42-member department.
