Two Country Homes Destroyed In $25,000 Fire Loss
Fire destroyed two homes near North Middletown and Monroe last night with an estimated loss of 25000 dollars. Konrad Heinkel’s nine room two story frame on Marshall Road burned after a defective flue caused the blaze. Heinkel and his wife and two children escaped unhurt as firefighters from North Middletown and Monroe battled flames for three hours. Lower floor furnishings were saved while outbuildings remained intact. Firefighters used water reserves and shared trucks to combat the fire and traced the origin to a chimney area. A second, smaller township fire in Excello drew officials to Route 73 but produced no flames. Two people suffered minor injuries in a separate four room home fire reported early today.

Death Of Child Prompts Probe At County Orphan Home
In Tuscarawas County the death of a three year old at the county children home sparked an investigation request to the prosecutor by the home trustees. Coroner D M Cermella ruled accidental death due to scalding from hot water and steam poured from a wash bow faucet turned on by another child, but faulted operators for not disconnecting the hot water system from a steam boiler.
