23-Year-Old Trumpet Player Admits Knife Slaying Of Little Girl
Harold Beach Jr a 23-year-old filling station attendant who plays trumpet confessed to Cleveland police that he killed eight-year-old Sheila Ann Tuley with a kitchen knife on New Year’s Day after she resisted his advances. His body was found on a neighbor’s porch near her home. Beach was arrested in Baltimore while changing a tire and agreed to extradition to Ohio. Tuley’s father urged execution if Beach is the killer. Beach had previously served time for a sex offense on an 11-year-old boy and said he had once wanted to be a musician.

Coroner Milton Warner planned a verdict tomorrow on ten children killed January 4 when a tractor drawn bobsled was struck by a speeding passenger train. Nine witnesses testified including Jesse Wyse, the tractor driver, who said he did not look for a train before entering the crossing. New York Central engineer Sherer testified the train was traveling 80 miles an hour and the whistle was blown before the sled was hit. Other witnesses said they did not hear the whistle until impact.
