Sun's energy powers Chicago museum exhibit
Energy from the sun helps power a new Energy Lab at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Some 4,760 solar cells on a 65 by 4 foot roof panel generate up to 1.6 kilowatts, about 12.8 kilowatt hours daily, supporting a 5,000 square foot exhibit highlighting energy conservation and various energy forms. The display features an energy conversion lab, a gravity sculpture, solar power tower model, and demonstrations of solar, wind, coal gas, ocean thermal, and biomass energy, plus energy efficient buildings and the first nuclear reactor story from 1942 at the University of Chicago.
