In Elyria area Ohio two young girls Janet five and Barbara three died in a fire that destroyed their one story frame home on Ethel Drive Carlisle Two near Elyria The parents Raymond and Betty Chrysler escaped unhurt but could not reach the children once flames trapped them in the doorway of the children's bedroom.
The forecast calls for cloudy windy weather today with rising temperatures and rain possibly mixed with sleet reaching a high near 50. Tonight and Saturday expect thunderstorms and mild winds with a low around 40 and a high near 50. Snow flurries are possible Saturday night into Sunday as colder air moves in.
Survivors arriving in Newark tell of being jolted as seven cars derailed near Odenton. Aaron Gordon of Nutley described the violent shake and axle snap that sent cars tumbling down a 15 foot embankment. Washington lawmakers tentatively approved a Ways and Means plan for about 13 billion dollars in highway taxes over 16 years to fund roads. If enacted, gasoline and tire taxes would rise on average six to seven dollars annually, with further per pound and sales tax boosts on tires camelback rubber and trucks. The measure, sponsored by Rep Boggs and backed by House leaders, awaits a formal committee vote next Tuesday.

A Denton babysitter was forced to quit when a demanding baby prompted a couple from North Texas State College to hire a neighbor to cover the evening. When the couple returned, another neighbor had taken over. The substitute said the original sitter had gone to the hospital to have a baby.
