Kentucky Couple Killed In Two-Car Crash Near Toledo

An elderly Kentucky couple died Friday after a two-car crash near Maumee Ohio. Philip H. Allen 69 Henderson Ky. lost control on an icy road and struck John J. Mullen 30 Toledo. Allen and his wife Birdie 70 were pinned for 30 minutes and died of multiple fractures and internal injuries Mullen suffered minor cuts.

Ellender to force farm bill vote Monday showdown

Balloon veers into Siberia from U S weather balloons

The U S Navy reported another weather balloon lost in strong northern Pacific winds drifting toward eastern Siberia. It is the fourth of 19 balloons to stray into Russian territory amid Soviet protests that such balloons are used for reconnaissance. The latest was launched Thursday and no signal has been received since early today.

Broken axle blamed for deadly Embassy derailment

The Pennsylvania Railroad attributed Thursday night’s wreck to a broken axle on a passenger coach of the 14 car Embassy train. The derailment near Odenton Maryland killed five and injured more than 100 as the train, pulled by an electric engine, traveled from Washington to New York at about 80 mph. Tornadic winds hit Butler County cities in morning storm

Tornadic winds and heavy thunderstorms struck Butler County with Hamilton first at 5 55 a.m. followed by Middletown about four hours later. In Hamilton 13 people were injured though none seriously as roofs were ripped off and windows smashed. Red Cross warned volunteers to stand by and the weather bureau expected the threat to end by noon.

City Sees 1.14 Inches Rain Before Dawn

A heavy early morning downpour drenched the city with 1.14 inches of rain by 7 a.m. bringing 24 hour total to 1.44 inches. Temperatures will fall to 25 tonight with snow flurries and cold weather expected to persist Sunday. Yesterday’s high reached 66 degrees around 11:30 p.m., up 33 degrees in 23 hours. The 5 a.m. reading stood at 56.

Ohio storms cause extensive damage across Hamilton area

Winds up to 84 mph battered south central Ohio from Hamilton through Columbus and Chillicothe. Structures including a three story Lodge and Shipley building roof and the Butler County jail yard were damaged. Injuries occurred as roofs collapsed and windows smashed. Trials of trailers and air base damage reported with injuries among civilians and personnel.

Moose Tamed By Lone Trapper On Kenai Peninsula

Anchorage report details Hugh Scott of Anchor Point chaining a 900 pound moose to a tree after it charged his dog team. The fight left two dogs injured but Scott secured the animal and vowed to carry a rifle on future traplines. Four men helped free the moose, which retreated into the woods.
