Forest fires in Ohio rise in number but burn less area
The American Forest Institute notes that Ohio sees more fires each year yet total acreage burned trends downward due to improved fire protection. Over the past decade fires range 600 to 2,000 annually with losses from 2,500 to 13,500 acres. In 1970 1,121 fires burned 4,980 acres, all man caused.
