Grace Chaney 86, once active on her Hillsboro area farm and garden, now copes with arthritis after a hip fracture. She relies on a walker and neighbors for help, hopes late gifts and a new sewing machine, and continues quilting while remembering her parents’ lesson to give.
Hillary Shifler a 2 year old with a rare intestinal disease is home for Christmas after six major operations. Her father John E Shifler 30 a Stillwater restaurant manager says she now walks crawls laughs and talks. An opening in her chest and a high protein feed through a tube keeps her alive with monthly costs around 3000 dollars. Hormones stimulate her digestion and a catheter handles excretion.
The Journal will not publish tomorrow so staff can spend Christmas with families. A reporter will be available tomorrow 5:30 to 7 p.m. to collect obituary information for Sunday’s paper. Call in other local items for Sunday by 9:30 p.m.
