TWA Jet Crashes on Landing at Milan in Dense Fog

A Boeing 707 on Flight 842 from San Francisco and New York crashed while landing at Malpensa airport in heavy fog. Officials report no deaths, but two passengers are seriously injured. 106 to 113 passengers and 9 crew were aboard. The plane ran off the runway, damaged its undercarriage, and left the main path, ending on a helicopter strip.

Christian towns hit by rocket and mortar fire near Beirut

Zahlah a Christian town 35 miles east of Beirut faced heavy rocket and mortar attacks. Fighting reached Mansourieh 15 miles northeast while Beirut remained quiet except for a nocturnal clash. Police reported 13 killed and 31 wounded with Zahlah described as besieged by militiamen.

Ford vows quick signature on six month tax compromise

United Airlines ends two week strike resumes flights

United Airlines restarts service after IAM approved a three year contract ending a two week machinists strike. A weekly Thursday delivery brings 20 to 30 dozen roses mums and daisies to about 180 Marion General Hospital patients. The gifts with a note To people, from people, who care about people began in November and are funded by an unidentified philanthropist. The bouquets, worth over 300 dollars weekly, lift patient morale and will continue indefinitely.
