Postmaster General John A. Gronouski announced suspension of normal mail deliveries on Saturday December 26 to allow most of the 590000 postal employees a three day Christmas weekend. Two hour window service will remain for business firms while substitute workers are hired to cover the day and savings are estimated at 3 to 4 million dollars.
Police pursued Cuban exile groups after a bazooka shell detonated harmlessly in the East River near the United Nations Building as Cuban minister Ernesto Guevara spoke inside. FBI and CIA joined the hunt while a knife-wielding woman was subdued and two men cut a Russian flag rope.
