Cincinnati Zoo officials announced King Tut, a 14 year old gorilla, recovered from weight loss and diarrhea after GI specialist Dr. Louis Rosenberg diagnosed sprue an allergic reaction to wheat in his food. Wheat was removed and Tut regained 40 to 50 pounds and improved overall.
In the Mekong Delta two U S officers were killed while directing a helicopter strike and defending Duc Long village. Two more Americans were wounded and another missing as the Viet Cong winter offensive claims more casualties across southern and northern provinces.
A car with a stuck accelerator struck three pedestrians outside a Columbus car wash. One woman, 57 year old Marjorie Whitmer, was killed and two others were injured. Police said a car wash employee was driving the vehicle at the time.
George Durrett 44 of Rt 2 Port Clinton died when a car rolled over on Bay Shore Road eight miles east of town. He was thrown from the vehicle Saturday in the accident.
Secretary McNamara proposes dissolving the Army Reserve and moving personnel into the National Guard while keeping Air Force Navy and Marines reserves intact. About 5,000 upper echelon federal employees would move from ready reserve status. The plan aims to save about 150 million dollars annually but requires congressional funding for implementation.
Four women identified ex convict John F Patterson 28 as the Crown Heights rapist after a police lineup. He was detained as he descended the Maple Street building stairs and charged with robbery assault and two counts of forcible rape. Police tied his arrest to prior rape and larceny records and found a mask and keys linking him to the crimes.

In London AP report, law clerk Eardley Gunasekera, 27, sues Christina Ware, 22, a nurse, for breach of promise and 5000 pounds in damages after she ended their engagement.
Three dynamite sticks with blasting caps were found half a mile south of the UN after a bazooka rocket exploded in the East River. A man, with a woman and child, carried the dynamite to a garage and police seized it for tests. The Bazooka was later sent to Picatinny Arsenal for examination and may be linked to the Cuban flagged launcher found near the UN.
Connersville Indiana AP report says Mike Tetrick found a fallen bundle of bills in a grocery line and gave it to the woman ahead. Back home Mrs. Tetrick discovered $45 missing from her purse, the money she had dropped.
A male customer was shot in the head and killed Saturday at the Bird Cage Lounge Bar in Parma Heights. Police identified the victim as Michael Joseph Hormay, 53, of Cleveland. Details were not immediately available.
