Republicans launch a tightly scheduled convention to renominate President Nixon. A single nomination for president and Agnew for vice president is anticipated, with debate focused on delegate allocation and a peaceful, orderly process amid protests outside the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach.
A heated fight over the national committee apportionment plan pits Agnew supporters against New York Michigan Minnesota New Jersey Rhode Island and Illinois delegations. Governors and senators including William Milliken and Charles Percy loom as potential 1976 rivals while social events frame the GOP gathering with Mrs Nixon and the President’s daughters in attendance.
