Protest leaders in Washington say the national antiwar movement is disintegrating with thinner crowds after 1960s peaks. They cite Nixon’s Vietnam stance and McGovern’s candidacy draining liberal support, and note arrests fell from May 1970 highs to far fewer demonstrators this week.
The Republican platform committee draft pledges to end economic controls and reform taxes while opposing busing for racial balance.
