Former actor Tom Neal dies eight months after prison release
Tom Neal, 58, a onetime B movie star whose life was shadowed by off screen violence, was found dead in his North Hollywood home. Authorities cited natural causes as the likely cause. Neal had a public feud with Franchot Tone in 1951 over Barbara Peyton, which ruined his film career and led to later work as a landscape gardener. His third wife Gail was shot to death in 1965, for which he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and imprisoned for 10 years. He was released on parole in December after serving six years. He is survived by his son from his second marriage.
