Senior Chief George Enter, a 16 year veteran, says the return marks a happy day for the Navy as Atlantic Fleet sailors begin donning the new old style starting May 1. The service had eliminated bell-bottoms and jumpers in 1971 in favor of coats and ties due to storage and appearance concerns. Some sailors likened the earlier look to bus drivers.
