At Willow Island West Virginia a scaffolding failure inside a giant cooling tower killed 51 men during a concrete pour at a 680 million Pleasants Power Station project on the Ohio River. Witnesses described a tower ring breaking away as debris and bodies were found amid twisted metal and rope netting. Rescue crews searched the rubble while families waited in a Belmont church. OSHA opened investigations into scaffolding and other violations.
Two suspects sought after Robert Ledford 50, former Madison Township Fire chief, was shot dead at Ledford's Grocery and Sohio Service Station at 6401 Germantown Road during a robbery. Witnesses include Ledford's mother-in-law and son. Police seek a black red or black maroon Cadillac seen fleeing toward Dayton. Ledford died at St Elizabeth's Medical Center after being transported from Middletown Hospital. Funeral services set for Monday at McCoy Leffler Funeral Home.
