Welfare Budget Sparks Possible Rhodes Veto Override

Ohio Senators plan a floor vote on Wednesday that could mark the first override attempt of Gov. Rhodes’s veto over a welfare budget. The bill would provide about 20.3 million dollars for rising welfare caseloads, with roughly 6 million more than White requested plus 6 million for other welfare costs and 2 million for tornado relief. White opposes the unrequested funds and argues the 14.7 million dollar request was sufficient. Democrats seek regional welfare offices, which White says aren’t needed.
