Politburo Drops Shelepin Amid Post Change and Beirut Violence

Moscow radio said Alexander N. Shelepin has been relieved from his Politburo duties at his own request. The 25th Soviet Communist party congress was set for February 24, 1976. Meanwhile in Beirut the dead rose above 100 as fighting continued after a mediation attempt by Arab League head Mahmoud Riad. The Phalangists handed over two private army members blamed for bus shootings. volleys and explosions persisted as both sides claimed targeting civilians and party guards.
