A Klaene Foundry blaze in Covington Kentucky destroyed the plant and leveled a city block. About 20 firefighters treated for injuries as the 4 pm explosion ripped through the roof. No serious injuries reported.
The United States evacuated Americans and some Cambodians from Phnom Penh as Khmer Rouge forces closed to one mile from the airport. Acting President Sau Kham Khoy was among those evacuated aboard Marine helicopters and carrier aircraft, with no injuries reported.
AP reports the auto sector will trim layoffs by 11 000 next week to the year's low, as 70 000 GM workers face April 30 SUB termination after furloughs. Overall 205 000 of 712 000 hourly workers are idle Monday, with GM stating 125 000 production staff on indefinite layoff by April end.
Josephine Baker, famed St. Louis born singer nicknamed Black Venus, died in Paris Saturday morning from a cerebral hemorrhage at age 68. She had heart trouble in her history and retired several times, yet continued singing to support eleven adopted children of diverse backgrounds.
Five Columbus city firemen died when a Beechcraft twin engine plane crashed into trees northeast of Columbus after taking an air ride post shift. Victims were K H Lyttle 40 James Bobby Mann 42 Thomas D Joyner 40 Ronald P Varner 39 and Victor A Ray Sr 46 identified by authorities.

Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high in the upper 50s to lower 60s and a near zero chance of rain tonight rising to about 10 percent Sunday. Observers in Saigon say the complete American pullout from Cambodia will not change battlefield dynamics in South Vietnam but will damage morale. They note Phnom Penh may fall quickly to Communist forces, though Saigon already wrote off Cambodia years ago. eastern border provinces have long been Communist bases.
The Times reported Aristotle Onassis planned a divorce from Jacqueline before his death last March. His will leaves Mrs Onassis a $3 million bequest and sets up $1 million trusts for Caroline and John II until they turn 21, far below earlier estimates. A Dec 3 call to Roy M. Cohn suggested the divorce action was contemplated.
Eight children from two families were killed when a fire swept a wood-frame house near the Alabama Georgia line. Authorities said the bodies were badly burned and could not be identified as investigators searched smoldering debris. Neighbors reported the parents were away Friday night and the cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
