John B Drake aged 19 from Bloomingburgh left home on Wednesday to fetch medicine for his ailing sister Mrs Terwilliger. He traveled to Middletown by noon train, was seen at Dr Dorrance’s office and Holding's Hotel, but vanished after 5 pm. Despite searches, tracks ended with no trace. He is described as 5 ft 8 in, 180 pounds, light complexion, rosy cheeks, slight stoop. attire noted. He worked for James M Mapes and in a tunnel last employed. fate remains unknown.

Between Saturday night and Sunday morning the Lain and Sweezy jewelry store on North street was entered by breaking a rear window and prying shutters. About 40 to 50 dollars in goods were stolen including five goblets two salt-servers solid silver napkin rings pearl jewelry and two pistols a seven shooter and a single barrel. A year earlier similar theft occurred. Police suspect juvenile or amateur burglars.
