Rev Mr Harvey’s Deckertown Europe lecture prompted calls for more talks there. A K Chandler of Newburgh has failed for a large amount with creditors settling for fifty cents on the dollar. Col C C Wheeler of Florida named Director of the First National Bank of Warwick replacing the late J A Thompson.
The St Pauls M E Fair on February 21 22 and 23 will feature an Express and Telegraph Office. Visitors can have hats coats and shawls checked at the Express Office and fair attendees known as Fair Ladies will attend.
Joseph H. Babcock of Bloomingburgh died instantly after a fall in Davis barroom when his toe caught a zinc piece on the floor. He struck his head on a chair and suffered a fractured skull. He was about 70 years old.
The Middle Town Village Board of Education presents the annual report covering February 1, 1871, to February 1, 1872. It details school population, attendance, expenditures, teacher salaries, facilities, and progress in educational initiatives.
In a February 17 1872 letter H Sweet explains funds collected at the Greeley lecture are on hand and ready to be paid over. He defends Hl B Young and Joseph Crawford against robbery accusations, noting Young sold tickets and Crawford handled admissions. both provided services gratis. The money will be applied as directed by the colored brethren’s church.
A preserved 1773 warrant to assess and collect £195 4s 6d for Goshen precinct charges, issued by the Orange County Supervisors and signed by Daniel Everett, Hezekiah Howell, E. W. Riers and Thomas Outwater. Receipt on the back shows £6 5d poundage paid to Joseph Holley, signed by John Harring, Treasurer. Ink remains unfaded. paper is dingy but well preserved.
Slauson Hall will host lively scenes Thursday and Friday next week with the Middletown Cricket Club using both halls for a grand ball and entertainment Thursday evening. Friday afternoon the Crawford Railroad Company will hold their celebration with a collation in the lower hall then speeches and toasts in the large audience room above.
