Bahamas 1956 General Elections select 29 for House

The 1956 Bahamas general elections conclude with 29 men chosen for the House of Assembly for seven years. Twelve old members were left out, and deposits totaling 5880 dollars were forfeited by 21 candidates. The race leaves the colored representation unchanged, though some faces are new. In a separate note, a local gubernatorial dispute reveals a mix of support and confusion as voters and a grocer named William Hepburn discuss preferences, eventually clarified as supporting C Farris Bryant, with the author noting Bill’s strong campaign effort.
