Suburban PADS volunteers spark homelike help network

Maureen Bringley, an award winning Chicago stage actress, joins PADS after a high school paper story and helps her H F students volunteer. Jerry Levine, a Sloan Club recruit, steps down as PADS site director but remains active. Lea and Pat Culver head the St John United Church of Christ cooking team at Chicago Heights, with Foresters backing. PADS shelters across eight years housed 2,800 people and served 230,000 meals with 4,400 volunteers. New sites planned with Oak Lawn partnership. Volunteers say homelessness in the suburbs is broader than expected and the rewards are mutual. To volunteer contact Hedegard or the Oak Lawn Partnership.
