Matteson Police Department to add two full time officers under a $150,000 U S Department of Justice grant. Chief Lawrence Burnson said the COPS funding will boost the force to five officers and is tied to upcoming Village Board reviews for hiring on Sept 21 with hiring deadlines in January 1999.
Assistant Village Planner Craig Jenson says after lowering Lake George in the Lakewood subdivision and removing 2,100 cubic yards of sediment, the next phase in September will remove fish from the lake. The project, started over five years ago, includes streambank work and a $144,587 IEPA grant from February 1997.

Leslie Tucker a Park Forest letter carrier 61 was indicted by a Will County grand jury on predatory criminal sexual assault related to an incident with a 5 year old on his mail route this summer. He was arrested and held on bond of 1 million with a Monday arraignment delayed to review bond reduction.
The Richton Park Village Board approved two ordinances to authorize waterworks and sewage revenue bonds up to 550 000 for a new water treatment plant and a special use permit for the well site at Latonia and Heartland Drive. Layne Western won a 112 238 bid to begin phase one drilling and test pumping with phase two next spring.
