State police cutbacks threaten area departments
Illinois IDLE proposals would lay off 51 troopers and cut 88 through attrition, end laboratory analysis for minor crimes, and affect polygraph, serology, and firearms services. Cuts target July 1 if Gov Thompson fails tax hike. Local chiefs call plan a political ploy but fear funding and enforcement gaps. Small departments worry over prosecutions, private lab reliance, and higher costs in summer months.

Additional defendants William Fultz and Lawrence Minter faced similar charges. Letters have been sent for appearance with bench warrants possible if they fail to show.
