Ten blue spruce trees will be shipped between April 1 and May 31 to each person who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation during March. Thornton Township High School District 205 officials pledged to restore $2.9 million in proposed cuts for the 1993 94 school year after voters approved the Feb 23 primary education tax rate referendum by 58 percent Superintendent Richard Taylor called the action the happiest we had to take and said funds will be used wisely rather than borrowed The district said the saved programs include PACE Alternative School staffing and summer school both regular and freshmen only programs with sessions set to begin June 21 1993 and continue into August 3 1993 The board also authorized the expulsion of a 16 year old male involved in an assault and fighting incident.
Police await the 16 year old victim to recover before questioning him about the shooting outside Patton Elementary School in Riverdale. A 15 year old is in custody as investigators seek why a gun was carried and discharged amid an accidental type shooting. The wounded teen, who underwent surgery, was listed in serious condition, with authorities reviewing juvenile court involvement. Witnesses are being interviewed as the case proceeds.
