Rich Township cuts post creates cheaper assistant to supervisor
Rich Township will eliminate one $44 000 administrative post held by George Falaney and create a lower paying assistant to the supervisor job with a three page description. The Feb 22 meeting saw Trustee Carney Barr dissent. Officials say the move trims the budget for the new fiscal year starting April 1. Falaney invited to apply for the new post as he left his managerial job before its expiration. The township cites no ESDA connection for the change and notes Falaney previously oversaw financial and structural work but not ESDA finances. Boy Killed on Illinois Central Tracks Near 20th Street
A 12 year old Park Forest boy Brendan Skelly was struck and killed by an Illinois Central Gulf freight train while four youths lit fireworks and darted across tracks near 20th Street. The incident occurred about 6 30 p m, and Brendan died at Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center around 10 p m. The train was en route from Harvey to New Orleans, and police were at the scene though the area lies within Park Forest. School officials activated an intervention team to support classmates and friends.
