South Side Irish Parade steps off on Western Avenue
The 15th annual South Side Irish St Patrick Day Parade begins at 1:30 p m from 103rd Street and Western Avenue and travels to 114th Street. About 200000 spectators are expected to line the route to see bands parish groups politicians Irish dancers unions and floats including a baby buggy from the first 1979 parade.

Friends start trust fund to aid Richton Park fire family
A Richton Park family of five lost their tri level home in a blaze on Poplar Avenue. Denise Carellas and Laurie Gibson organized a LaSalle Bank trust fund in Matteson to help the Maria family, now living in a local hotel, recover from the loss. Fire officials estimate 15,000 in structural damage and similar in contents with more likely. The fire began in the kitchen and prompted a large response from nearby departments.
