Residents oppose outdoor amusement park plan on Richton Park highway

Public hearing on the proposed outdoor amusement park drew about 20 residents who object to noise and argued the project should not be approved. Attorney Lemmen Eley outlined plans including an entertainment complex, mini golf, arcade, batting cages, go cart track and trampoline courts. Planning commissioners postponed the review to August 23 to consider rezoning from B-2 to B-3 and a special use permit, noting current nonconforming use laws and required building code upgrades.

Richton Park loses Sexton wins Appellate landfill case

Illinois Appellate Court overturns Cook County denial of a special use permit for a 84 acre Richton Park landfill site. The ruling allows operation of a sanitary landfill while cautioning it does not approve disposal of hazardous chemicals. The case concerns zoning and declaratory judgment actions by Richton Park and Cook County against John Sexton Contractors.

Bell picketers cite job security as top concern

AT&T and 22 subsidiaries face a nationwide strike with 500 000 workers walking off and 23 000 in Illinois. Talks to resume, unions seek 7 percent annual raises while AT&T offers 3.5 percent.
