Park Forest trustees reversed themselves Wednesday to approve the Dolan associates plan to renovate Norwood Plaza. The board restored the original incentives after amending and then rejecting a revised package that offered a bank loan guarantee and tax-sharing terms.
Four of five Rich Township High School District 227 trustees have signaled intent to seek re-election as terms expire this year. Clinton Kinney will circulate petitions for another term, with a filing deadline August 29. President Thomas Beckham may not run again, having served since 1976, while Kinney, Jim Gilchrist, Max Galdean and Judith Lohr also face term expirations. Two seats are two year terms ending 1985 and three are four year terms ending 1987. Nomination petitions specify two or four year terms.
Matteson police and fire departments rolled out new schedules to cover summer vacation gaps. Police report 33 percent more arrests last July with fewer burglaries and auto thefts as shifts overlap for peak hours. Fire volunteers now work 12 hour shifts paid at 2.70 an hour, boosting response times and morale while reducing full time staffing costs.
Rep George OBrien says President Reagan plans to form a steel industry advisory panel modeled on the Steel Tripartite committee. He notes the White House meeting with the Steel caucus and hopes the group will unite business labor and government to address long term steel industry problems.
