Lake George cleanup nears final phase in Richton Park
Lake George in the Lakewood subdivision is entering the last major phase of stabilization. Three bids were received for regrading and vegetation planting in accessible areas behind McDonalds and the gas station, Klawitzer Park, and the island with a budget of 69000. The project, begun in 1996 with a Clean Lakes grant, aims to stabilize stream banks and create fish habitats, while avoiding shoreline in front of residences.

Matteson lights: village to push statewide school caution program
Matteson officials spent over 40000 dollars to install 10 solar powered flashing school caution lights near five elementary schools in 1998. Officer Al Romano and Public Works Assistant Wanda Tippie led the effort and will testify in Springfield before the House Transportation Committee. Tippie notes 1997 pedestrian injuries and fatalities among ages 1 to 15 and seeks broader support, including a May 1997 reference to nationwide aims.
