In Richton Park, voters re elected Michael E. Brown and Chester Wilkins and chosen Cynthia Butler to the village board for four year terms. With nine of ten precincts counted Brown led with 421 votes, Butler 416, Wilkins 297, while challengers Cosenza 201 and Paicz 237 trailed. Butler, a CNA Insurance systems manager, plans to attract new business to ease taxes. Brown, an insurance underwriter, aims to grow the commercial base. Wilkins, a hotel workers union vice president, supports momentum and expansion as essential.
Matteson residents re-elected incumbents Dale Graham Shirley Green and Allan Johnson to four-year terms on the village board with 12 precincts reporting. Challenger Andrea Justin received 330 votes. The trio, backed by Mayor Mark Stricker, emphasized economic development infrastructure and continued public services including police fire and parks.
Richton Park Village Board approved a $65,000 bid from Applied Ecological Services to finish the Lake George restoration in the Lakewood subdivision. The $69,000 project will regrade and replant shore vegetation, creating aquatic habitat and plantings along accessible lake areas near McDonald’s, the gas station, Klawitter Park, and the island.
In Rich Township High School District 227 three four year terms were filled with Celeste Caldwell Otis White and Julian Freund winning seats. Incumbents Jean Rollins Helms and Burdell Chapman were defeated. In Matteson School District 159 four seats were won by Janice Lewis Jeffrey Johnson Michael Schram and Wilburn Wilkins Jr with incumbent Grammer losing to Lewis.
