The ad promotes Woolen and silklike fabrics at deep discounts including Black Henrietta 19 wide at 44c per yard and 50 inch Black Serge at 40c. It touts novelty woolens and bourettes around 37c to 50c, promising samples via a free postpaid catalog to secure buyers’ names and addresses.
The North Western Limited runs daily from Chicago to St Paul and Duluth with entirely new equipment. It features compartment sleeping cars, buffet, smoking and library cars, standard sleeping cars, dining and ladies' coaches for luxury travel. Tickets via Chicago & North Western Ry are sold by all agents.
In Canton Ohio on September 30 rain delayed McKinley lawn demonstrations. Delegations from Sandusky and Walkerton Indiana gathered by special train to hear Major McKinley urge unity, warn against destroying the national credit, and defend American wage earners and railroad workers against currency policies.

The North German Gazette notes the fifteenth anniversary of the international parcels post in October and says the United States will join during the Washington postal conference next May with Guatemala and Paraguay likely to adhere. In Sanpwich Illinois Peter Hines killed Peter Ferguson and mortally wounded Hines’s wife at their home before surrendering. authorities report the incident occurred about two miles east of Plano.
In a letter reproduced by The Times, Andrew Carnegie argues that American farmers are fairly prosperous but discontent due to drop in prices, noting crop values do not fetch former highs.

An Independence, Louisiana, report notes militia withdrawal after assurances of a quick Johnston trial. Another note: a plan to electroprobe beef with electricity at the prison.
A riot outside Ligonier Pennsylvania erupted when land owners Dixon Houston and family clashed with Superintendent Geo Scott and a road crew after a court dispute over a stream course. Scott was shot in both legs and the Houston family was beaten. all were jailed before Justice I M Graham. The community remains heated by the clash.
Descanos Pennsylvania September 30. Dr George S Henry died from wounds after Dr L Johnston shot him. Mrs Johnston injured by her husband’s gunshot remains in serious condition but expected to recover in days. Dr Johnston jailed at New Bloomfield charged with murder. Reported suicide of two children last spring is cited as a trigger for his alleged breakdown and crime.
A homicide case was dismissed after the National Prison association examined the subject. The census and a magazine editorial were deemed sensational journalism. The piece argued the world is improving and homicide is decreasing.
