Stark County districts saw over 2,000 public school students leave their home districts for outside options last year. Families cite programs and parental work locations as reasons. Open enrollment lets students attend any public school that accepts nonresident enrollees, with more than 70,000 students in about 560 of Ohio’s 612 traditional districts participating.
Ohio Department of Education data show Stark County has 10 of 17 districts allowing cross district attendance. Across the state 561 districts reported their status with 430 accepting students from any district 39 allowing from adjacent districts and 92 not offering open enrollment.
