Upham Victory in Major Grand Rapids Damage Suit

The long pending damages case in Judge Webb's circuit, filed by F. H. Johnson of Rhineland er against Upham Manufacturing Co., Marshfield Land and Lumber Co., and Copper River Land Co., was withdrawn out of court last week after defense evidence showed no valid cause of action. The action claimed damages up to 500000 for failure to convey timber tracts sold to Copper River Land Co. The stockholders had not approved the option at issue, making it ineffective. E E Finny and Miss Nettie Dickenson testified for the defense. The withdrawal marks a complete victory for the defendant companies and for Ex Governor Upham.
