Meat imports and cattle prices eyed by Illinois farmers
Meat imports rose sharply in 1962 yet fed cattle prices stayed strong with Chicago steer prices averaging 27.67 per hundred pounds. Factors dimming beef demand included dock and newspaper strikes, weak advertising, and high winter costs. Domestic red meat and poultry output rose, while import growth outpaced gains in production. An upcoming Production Credit Association meeting in Charleston will mark its 30th anniversary with talks on rural tax relief and local entertainment.

The long list covers foreign trade, legislation, audit of township funds, junior college study, child labor, and constitutional amendments on taxes and legislative sessions.
