Memorial Day Dance Draws Large Crowd at Manilo Opera House

The Memorial Day Dance at the Manilo Opera House drew a capacity crowd. The Negelman Quintet of Peoria provided music with Peggy Webb as vocalist. J. J. Waddell called the squares as both round and square dancing played and nine sets danced at once.

Michael O'Keefe Dies at Home in Mt Carmel District

The Topeka Community mourns the death of Michael O'Keefe found dead at his Mt Carmel District home. He had been under a doctor's care for two weeks and was a lifelong Manito resident and Catholic church member. Funeral services were held Monday at the Manito church.

Bible School Opens at Forest City Baptist Church

A Bible school will be held at Forest City Baptist Church starting Monday June 5. Sessions run daily from 9 to 11 30 with children from 4 years old through 8th grade invited. Mrs Bilyeu receives help from Sunday School teachers and others. Mr. and Mrs George Bilyeu were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Dillard Warner and attended the Manito program in the afternoon.

Community unit district election info meeting set

In preparation for the June 10 school election a citizen committee announces a special informational meeting at Manito High School auditorium. The 8:30 pm DST 7:30 pm start invites all residents of the district to hear a neutral speaker, Luther J. Block of Springfield, address questions about the current school setup.

Bishop Baker to Preside at Illinois Methodist Conference

The Illinois Conference of the Methodist Church meets in Bloomington June 6 to 11 with about 450 ministers and an equal number of laypeople and retired ministers. Bishop James Cham erlain Baker, born in Sheldon IL, will preside in honor of his fiftieth anniversary, with Dr. Frank S. Hickman and Elton Trueblood delivering lectures. The Scottish Rite hosts the Woman's Society of Christian Service Assembly Saturday afternoon with about 1000 women expected.

Obituary for George Arnett of Kentucky and Illinois

George Arnett born January 24 1870 in Kentucky to Ples and Sarah Strawbridge Arnett died May 20 1950 in Peoria hospital. He lived in New Holland and Mason City areas before moving to Manito last July. A farmer by trade he was a quiet neighbor. He leaves brother Lewis and nephew Ben Fancher among other relatives in Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents twins and siblings.
