Youth for Christ hosts a meeting Saturday at the Opera House with Rev. Daryle Hussey as speaker. The event begins at 8:00 p m daylight saving time and aims for a strong turnout.

Mr and Mrs Earl Graff are the parents of a seven pound nine ounce son born at Pekin Hospital on Wednesday. Mrs Lee Brown of Chicago and Mrs Mary Barnes of Normal were weekend guests of Mrs Pearl Neikirk, phone your news to No 89.
The Memorial Day Dance at the Manilo Opera House drew a capacity crowd. The Negelman Quintet of Peoria provided music with Peggy Webb as vocalist. J. J. Waddell called the squares as both round and square dancing played and nine sets danced at once.
Mr and Mrs George Ethel hosted a canasta party last Friday evening. Attending were Mr and Mrs Lyman Runyon and Mr and Mrs John Fischer. Luncheon was served.
The Topeka Community mourns the death of Michael O'Keefe found dead at his Mt Carmel District home. He had been under a doctor's care for two weeks and was a lifelong Manito resident and Catholic church member. Funeral services were held Monday at the Manito church.
Mrs. Norma Jean Bilyeu chairs the two week Vacation Bible School as preparations wrap up.
A Bible school will be held at Forest City Baptist Church starting Monday June 5. Sessions run daily from 9 to 11 30 with children from 4 years old through 8th grade invited. Mrs Bilyeu receives help from Sunday School teachers and others. Mr. and Mrs George Bilyeu were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Dillard Warner and attended the Manito program in the afternoon.
In preparation for the June 10 school election a citizen committee announces a special informational meeting at Manito High School auditorium. The 8:30 pm DST 7:30 pm start invites all residents of the district to hear a neutral speaker, Luther J. Block of Springfield, address questions about the current school setup.
The Illinois Conference of the Methodist Church meets in Bloomington June 6 to 11 with about 450 ministers and an equal number of laypeople and retired ministers. Bishop James Cham erlain Baker, born in Sheldon IL, will preside in honor of his fiftieth anniversary, with Dr. Frank S. Hickman and Elton Trueblood delivering lectures. The Scottish Rite hosts the Woman's Society of Christian Service Assembly Saturday afternoon with about 1000 women expected.
Memorial Day observance sponsored by Hill Palmer Post 561 and Ladies Auxiliary held in the Manila Opera House led by Rev D J Powell. The program featured vocal selections and an address, followed by a march to Triangle Park for wreath laying and taps.

Mrs James Seelye entertained Thursday evening in honor of her husband on his birthday. Guests included Miss Marian Seelye Clyde Ulrich Peoria and Mr and Mrs Wayne Wistehuff and sons Ronnie and Jimmie and George Meyer. The group attended the Manito grade school commencement where Ronnie Wistehuff was a graduate.
Donna Meyer was initiated into Alpha Epsilon Sigma dramatic fraternity on May 25 in Eureka Illinois. She obtained her acting hours as part of the initiation process.
Donna appeared in the college homecoming play at the start of the year and in a spring one act. She earned production hours in the forthcoming commencement play. Earlier this spring she was elected treasurer of Pi Chapter of Delta Zeta and appointed chair man of the coronation committee for fall homecoming.
George Arnett born January 24 1870 in Kentucky to Ples and Sarah Strawbridge Arnett died May 20 1950 in Peoria hospital. He lived in New Holland and Mason City areas before moving to Manito last July. A farmer by trade he was a quiet neighbor. He leaves brother Lewis and nephew Ben Fancher among other relatives in Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents twins and siblings.
Michel O Keefe born June 9 1870 died suddenly at his Topeka area home on May 27 1950 He never married and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church Manito Surviving relatives include Victor E Tonne sen Los Angeles CA and Mrs Charles Croton Chicago IL Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception Manito with burial at St Frederick Cemetery Pallbearers included Jacob Graff Rudy DeSutter Fred Barnett Melvin Flemming Thomas Lyons and George Huffman Mrs W A Andrews of Pekin sang
Miss Lois Ann Hilst daughter of Mr and Mrs Wesley Hilst returned from the Methodist hospital Saturday where she underwent an operation. Sunday afternoon callers included Mr and Mrs Norval Wright Mrs Kate Hilst Mrs Ernest Rose Kathryn Johnson all of Peoria Mr and Mrs Wm F Hilst of Manito and Miss Betty Hilst of Pekin.
