Mrs Harold Palmer hosted a pink and blue shower for sister in law Mrs George Ethell of Manito at her Easton home. A pink blue umbrella centerpiece adorned the gift table. Fifty attended and prizes went to Alpha Ethell Evelyn Timbrook and Mrs Clarence Palmer.
Miss Mary Alice Cooper arrives home to spend summer with her parents Dr and Mrs Cooper. She completed her freshman year at Arkansas Polytechnic School Russellville Arkansas and will enroll as a sophomore at Southern College this fall.
Mr. and Mrs. V. Lawson with their children and Terry Soldwedel of Pekin visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lawson on Sunday. Mr. Don Johnson was a supper guest in the Lawson home.
Miss Julia Burd Frigidaire Home Economist announces Carefree Cooking as the title for a cooking and freezer demonstration. She will share shortcuts to flavorful meals and distribute recipe sheets to attendees with tips for freezing in season produce.
Several boys from Manilo FPA will attend the FFA convention at the University of Illinois June 13 14 and 15. They will judge dairy cattle fat stock poultry and grain and witness parliamentary procedure contests and public speaking events. An evening FFA follies and daily activities include softball swimming contests and tours of University Farms. Two delegates will be chosen at a June 9 meeting at 7 00 PM CST to represent the school in voting.
Hill Paler Unit 561 American Legion Auxiliary of Manila hosted Tuesday June 6 for Mrs A L Lewis District Director Mrs Frances Branham District Membership Chairman Mrs Zella Mefford District color bearer of Virginia Ill and Forest City Auxiliary members from Manito Ill and Havana Unit guest Mrs Marvel Schierbeck The meeting opened at 8 pm at the Legion Hall with Bertha F Thomas presiding Lewis spoke on Child Welfare and Veteran Rehabilitation funded by the Poppy fund from the recent sale The 20th district convention is set for June 23 in Virginia Illinois Attendees from Manito include Bertha Thomas delegate and several members A social hour followed with luncheon served by committee members The next regular meeting is Tuesday June 13 at 7 pm CST
Trustees vote 4 to 2 to switch the village to Central Standard Time at midnight Saturday June 10th. The move follows a petition presented at Monday’s village board meeting requesting the return to standard time.
The clothing and foods classes of the Fancy Fixers 4H club will meet Wednesday at 2 p.m. DST in the country home of Loretta and Nancy Warner. Those without transportation may meet at Monroe's Cafe.

Miss Donna Briggs daughter of Mrs Kathryn Briggs wed Leonard Bitner of Topeka at the Peoria Methodist church with Rev Smith officiating. Attended by Mr and Mrs Wayne Morris the couple planned a short Chicago honeymoon and will reside in Peoria where Mr Bitner works for Caterpillar Tractor Co.
Ground has been broken for a new feed mill on the Ide family lots. Robert Huette, son of Tremont raiser John Huette, backs the venture. He brings army service experience and a background with Murphy's concentrates. The firm aims to have the mill ready by August first offering grinding and ration services to local farmers and feeders.
John Franklin Reynolds born June 25 1881 in Green Valley Illinois died June 2 1950 at his Manito home after a period of declining health. He married Beulah Stuart February 14 1912 and farmed in Fulton and Mason counties before settling in Manito twenty years ago. Survived by his wife seven children six grandchildren two sisters four brothers and many relatives. Services were held June 5 at Johnson Funeral Home and Bethel Baptist church Saidora with burial in Bethel Cemetery.
William Meyer was declared winner of the DeKalb Agricultural award by a committee from the junior class and agriculture instructor, marking a notable recognition in the 4H program.
Mr and Mrs Kenny Smith are proud parents of their first child a daughter born at Pekin hospital last Thursday The baby has been named Susan Kay and joins the family as the couple s first child.
The Havana High School Band led by Ernest Opp invites adults and students from Mason County and nearby areas to join summer concerts. Rehearsals begin June 5 and concerts start June 6 at 8 p.m. on Court House lawn, with Tuesday performances and Monday rehearsals at the high school gym.

Sixteen guests gathered Thursday at the home of Mrs. Carl Long for a pink and blue shower honoring Mrs. Robert Getz of Tremont. After contests were played Mrs. Getz opened her many gifts. Refreshments were served to friends from Mackview Tremont Milner Pekin Spring Lake.
Mrs. D. J. Powell has returned home from Colchester Illinois where she taught for her sister since May 6. Her sister Mrs. Elsie Gagg recently underwent surgery at the University of Iowa Clinic Iowa City and is reported to be recovering as rapidly as possible.
