Heavy horses vanish from farms across New South Wales

A warning from NSW Department of Agriculture Special Live Stock Officer Mr W J B Murphy says heavy horses are rapidly disappearing as breeding has almost ceased since World War II. In six to eight years the youngest horses will be over 15, making replacements scarce and possibly requiring long-distance service for mares. Farmers with one or two heavy horses should plan to breed themselves, while limited Clydesdale foals are available at Hawkesbury, Wagga Wagga and Trangie centers with advice from the department.
