In the final week the Mackenzies Drapery Department offers spot cash bargains on carpet squares of all sizes and Axminster at big reductions. Remnants of linoleum and felt base suitable for small rooms and tabletops are cleared at special spot cash prices. Dri-Glo towels are cash priced at 7 shillings 11 pence.
A dated cash price list shows items including wool skeins at 1 shilling and 1 shilling sixpence, pyjama girdles at 6d each, black machine cotton at 6 for 1 shilling, assorted buttons at 6d per packet, children's hose at 1/6 a pair, wool socks at 2/6 a pair, and wool gloves at 2/6 a pair.
Listing shows various ladies garments with sizes and cash prices. Items include saxe moss crepe frocks floral jersey and black moss crepe suits, plus saxe hopsack linen coats, fawn tweed maids coat, floral waffle pique housegown and silk wool pantettes. Prices range from 7 shillings 6 pence to 93 shillings.
Peter Kenneth Heron pleaded guilty through counsel to stealing a truck rim tyre and tube from Mr H Bull. He was given a 12 month good behaviour bond and fined £5 for driving an unregistered vehicle. Constable Medhurst testified about spotting the tyre, leading to admission of theft from a spare wheel rack in Market Street. The bench noted his youth and prior good character. two months hard labour suspended on a £30 recognisance with one surety of £30 for one year. The case also touched on vehicle registration expiry and leniency sought by counsel Mr Leyden.
Mrs Dy Brenda Littlejohn was fined £4 with £3 12s 0d costs after failing to comply with a Mandowa Shire Council notice to eradicate noxious weeds. Noxious Weeds Inspector J Berry stated the defendants property, inspected on March 3 April 5 21 May 17 and June 2, was neglected with weeds, sheep grazing on infested areas and Bathurs Bur noted as key issues.
Basil Malcolm Hall and John M Cruise appeared in court charged with taking honor from a licensed hotel during prohibited hours. Hall was fined 5 pounds and Cruise 3 shillings and 100? The report notes a chaotic incident with a baby and blotting paper as a stray detail.
Gillogly tops Manilla best and fairest after scoring 17 points beating Walcha’s Lt. Orehara by four. A stocky five eighth from Wingham, 20, Gillogly joined Manilla last summer and is praised for speed, sportsmanship, and leadership. He works at the Commercial Bank and shone in Manning River trials and Manilla club games.
Senator Anthony reports outward mails from Manilla are sent four days weekly by rail, with road dispatches halted since a carrier’s agreement with a newspaper calrrier ended. North and North West districts’ terms collapsed, limiting to four weekly outward mail runs. A rail return carrier option was rejected due to timing and volume. Proposals for Tamworth routes or a special service were deemed prohibitive. The Farmers and Settlers Association discussed pressing the PMG for better service and urged Railways to improve train service to Manilla and surrounding counties.
