Mills County News Briefs Highlight Antiques and Weather
A reader shares oversized strawberries from Mills County. An Antiques Journal article by Otha D. Wearin on shape battles and the Wearin collection at Nishna Vale, with pictures by Don Briley, garners note. The area reports liberal rains, sheriff records show May accidents and one fatality, and a Mercury Spacecraft display promotes the Freedom Bond Drive in Oakland. School board meetings shift to the high school due to Chantry construction.

Water Plan Wins and Bonds Lose in Henderson Vote
Henderson residents approved a municipal water system but rejected a bond plan required to fund it. In a Wednesday election 48 voted for the water plan and 47 against, short of a simple majority trigger. A separate bond proposal of up to $13,000 failed with 48 in favor and 42 against, needing 60% to pass. Mayor Clair Aukland said the town council would meet June 7 to decide next steps. The plan anticipated up to $40,000 spending with $27,000 from earnings and $13,000 from bonds. A prior water system proposal was already rejected in the northeast Mills county community.
