Farm Bureau delegates meet in Des Moines conference
Mills County Farm Bureau leaders attended the Iowa Farm Bureau midsummer conference in Des Moines May 31 and June 1. About 350 county leaders heard talks on policy development, turkey marketing orders, and a proposed merger of two Farm Bureau affiliated companies. The body adopted a strong opposition to Congress farm program legislation and urged voluntary adjustment plans.

NFO Area Meat and Grain Boards Met in Omaha
The NFO Area Meat board met May 28 at the YMCA in Omaha to approve minor changes in master contracts suggested by packers and order buyers. About 800 attended. Mills county delegates included Leu May and Marvin Bowen among others. The grain board met that night with similar attendance to set grain prices. corn 1.57, No 2 hard red wheat 2.40, soybeans 2.78, rye 2.80, oats 0.93, barley 1.32. Attendees included Everett Knop and Ward Hunt plus Marvin Bowen.

Thirty five pupils from Nishna Valley Community School Hastings were awarded certificates at May 29 graduation exercises. Mrs Lloydene Steen led processional and recessional, Rev Irwin Elesan gave invocation and benediction, with music by girls trio and sextet. W H Harber of Henderson delivered the address. Certificates were awarded by Superintendent Fred J Ashley.
