Negro Delegates May Increase At Democratic Convention
The Democratic Party plans to welcome a larger number of Negro delegates to the Chicago 1968 convention, aiming to raise representation from Deep South and border states where Negro populations are high. In 1964 only 64 of 2,944 delegates were Black, with 62 Black alternates among 2,208. Observers expect at least a doubling by 1968.
