GOP Congressman Found Shot On Maryland’s Eastern Shore
The West Coast era of 1973 politics is recalled as GOP Congressman Mills suffers a self-inflicted gunshot wound at close range in Easton Maryland. A hospital spokesman calls it a death by own action amid questions about a $25,000 Nixon era contribution. Mills, elected in 1971 to the 1st District, had served as Morton’s aide since 1962 and faced lingering political fallout from the contribution disclosure. He had signed a 1971 statement reporting $9,395 in total campaign contributions and earned a World War II Bronze Star for river Rhine crossing bravery.
