A Dallas housewife sprays a nicotine based remedy on a mysterious pulsating blob in her garden. Scientists debate its nature with theories ranging from mold to bacteria reacting to humidity. News sparked a blob craze as reports spread about a red pulsating mass appearing elsewhere.
A Pentagon governed case accuses eight young enlisted men of collaborating with North Vietnam while in captivity at a POW camp near Hanoi known as the Plantation. Col. Theodore W. Guy filed charges against five Army men and three Marines, citing aiding disobedience and conspiracy and noting some POWs gained privileges by informing on others. The Marines named are Sgt Abel L. Kavanaugh, Staff Sgt Alfonso E. Riate, and Pvt Frederick L. Elbert Jr. Kavanaugh and Riate are on convalescent leave from Camp Pendleton while Elbert is under treatment at St Albans Naval Hospital. A federal grand jury indicted Abbott Laboratories and five officers on 60 counts for allegedly contaminated intravenous solution linked to 50 deaths and about 350 injuries nationwide. The fluid from a Rocky Mount plant, Sept 1970 to Apr 1971, survived after sterilization due to a faulty cap, causing blood poisoning. The FDA recalled millions of bottles and urged criminal action.
Senators seeking to cut off money for bombing Cambodia won a procedural test vote over objections by Nixon allies that the move would jeopardize Vietnam peace efforts. The action cleared the way for Senate approval of an amendment beyond the House limit on Indochina funds.

In Lockney Floyd County voters in Precinct 2 will decide July 7 on creating Lockney Senehat Se Hospital District and approving $110000 in general obligation bonds to buy the privately owned Lockney General Hospital. The election runs 8 am to 7 pm at Lockney City Hall with absentee voting June 18 to July 2.

Secretary of the Treasury George P. Shultz said the administration is considering an increase in the federal tax on gasoline. Sources indicate a proposed rise of one to ten cents per gallon to curb demand, with a penny tax boosting federal revenue by about $1 billion.

Saigon sources report Henry Kissinger and Le Duc Tho have agreed to a peace plan calling for an immediate halt to all reconnaissance flights over North Vietnam and a cease-fire within 24 hours between Saigon forces and the Viet Cong. The plan envisions monitors from both sides, mine clearing resumes, and talks on economics with Hanoi. A Council of National Reconciliation would be created within six months with elections planned.
