Penalty removal sparks shipper protests at Cotton Association event

Cotton shippers denounced lifting of a 50 point price support loan penalty on barky cotton at the Plains Cotton Growers meeting in Dallas. The group and allied associations debated how bark and grass affect grade while urging policy that would not hinder harvest quality and ginnery practices.

Lone bandit robs laundromat, escapes with cash

Ed's Drive In Cleaners owner E. E. Wickliffe says a lone Negro robber posing as a customer tied him up with cord and fled with 500 dollars in cash and 40 dollars in checks and cards from 305 Ave H. Police describe the suspect as Wayne Davis, about 6 feet tall, 175 pounds in dark pants and blue shirt.

Lubbock Hits Century Mark in Record Heat

Record heat saturated Lubbock and much of the South Plains with 100 degree readings at the National Weather Service station. Amarillo stood cooler by about 10 degrees as thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front. Showers appeared late, with light rain in Wilson Tahoka and Grassland. A bank bag theft occurred at Dapper Dan Cleaners but no armed robbery was reported.
