Plains Cotton Acreage Sets Record Million Bale Crop

A South Plains report projects a near record cotton crop for 1948 with total acreage rising from 2,016,000 to around 2.1 million amid irrigation expansion. Irrigated land could yield over 500,000 bales, while dryland output lags, and weather remains the key factor for reaching a million bales. County figures show Lubbock boosting irrigated acres from 90,000 to 120,000, Lynn County totaling 300,000 acres with minor irrigation, and overall production dominance by the region.
